After hiring Kevin Long as hitting coach in October, the Mets announced today that they have added Pat Roessler as assistant hitting coach.
Like Long, Roessler comes from the Yankees, where he was the director of player development from 2004 through this past season. He also served as the team’s field coordinator for nine of those seasons and hitting coordinator in 2005 and from 2012-2013. While it has been over a decade, Roessler has previous major league coaching experience. He was hitting coach for the Expos from 2000-2001.
The Mets began 2014 with Dave Hudgens as hitting coach and Luis Natera as assistant hitting coach. Hudgens was fired in late May before being replaced by Lamar Johnson. However, the Mets cut ties with both Johnson and Natera following the season.
