Mike Carp Designated For Assignment By Red Sox

CBS Boston

BOSTON (CBS) — Part-time outfielder/part-time first baseman Mike Carp recently expressed a desire to be traded to another team, yet Carp remained with the Red Sox through a very active trade deadline day on Thursday.

One day later, however, Carp got his wish.

Carp was designated for assignment on Friday afternoon, prior to the Red Sox’ series opener against the Yankees at Fenway Park. The Boston Globe’s Pete Abraham reported the move via Twitter.

The 28-year-old Carp hit just .198 with zero home runs in 42 games this season, a year after batting .296 with nine homers in 86 games. He went 0-for-8 with three strikeouts in limited playing time in the postseason.

Abraham reported on July 26 that Carp had requested a trade.
