The New York Mets have designated right-handed pitcher Buddy Carlyle for assignment Sunday, to clear roster space for starting pitcher Jon Niese Adam Rubin of ESPN New York reports.

The righty had pitched seven innings of relief for the Mets in 2014, allowing one run while striking out seven and walking three. Niese is returning from a shoulder injury and is set to start against the Seattle Mariners Monday.
