The Oakland Athletics and San Francisco Giants are both off to great starts this season for their respective American West and National League West as they sit in first place entering Saturday’s action.
For the Athletics, they’ve been hampered by injuries to their rotation, mainly Jarrod Parker, who’s out for the remainder of the season after undergoing his second Tommy John surgery at the beginning of the season. Now fellow teammate A.J. Griffin may be in the same boat. It was originally reported Friday evening that the A’s right-hander would undergo Tommy John surgery next week, becoming the 17th player this season to fall victim to the season-ending procedure. However, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports that A’s assistant GM David Forst said that “no decision on the next course of action will be finalized” until he meets with Dr. Melhoff next week.
