Mariners, Nelson Cruz, Fernando Rodney have been the talk for the great northwest team as of late. They aren’t looking to make a huge financial commitment to Cruz. However, he should be cheap coming off his PED incident. I can see the M’s offering Cruz a 20 million 2 year deal, with performance incentives. Cruz has a batting average of .268, on base percentage of .327 and slugging percentage of .495. Age always being a factor for players Cruz will be turning 33 this upcoming season. A transition to first will become a ideal a propasition for any club that picks up Cruz in the future. Which team forks out the money for Cruz, expect a lot of strikouts and quite a few bombs over center field.
Fernando Rodney, his 2013 season wasn’t as impressive as his 2012 campaign. However, still solid to the core of a closer’s role. If the Mariners are serious about being a contender they will need to have a sure fire closer for the ninth inning.Fernando Rodney saved 33 games for the Rays last season and 82 batters in 66 2/3 innings of work. This would of course move Danny Farquhar to the setup role. Which would be a great eight and ninth inning for the Mariners.
